Driving Gear Unit/Coupling

Electrical Equipment for Railway Vehicles

Driving Gear Unit

The design and manufacturing technologies we have cultivated over many years have enabled us to achieve high reliability even in harsh environments, such as starting at extremely low temperatures.

In recent years, our driving gear units are also able to handle high-output, high-torque railway vehicle performance.

歯車装置

Features

  • Low noise is achieved by optimizing the tooth surface of the gears.

  • The gear boxes have either a split shape for easy axle replacement, or an integrated structure with simple construction. They can be made of cast steel, ductile cast iron (FCD (Ferrum Casting Ductile)) for noise reduction, or lightweight aluminum alloy for high-speed railway vehicle.

  • The truck suspension system can be selected from vertical suspension or diagonal suspension.

  • Compatible with high-speed railways such as the Shinkansen, general trains such as subway cars, ultra-low-floor trains (trams), and monorails.

Coupling

Couplings relay the rotational force generated by the traction motor to the gears of the wheels without shaking or distortion.

As the railway vehicle weight and center of gravity change constantly during operation, the role of the couplings is to efficiently transmit rotational force to the wheels.

Coupling is applied in the limited space inside the truck, and therefore it is vital that they be both compact and easy to maintain.

Features

  • Reduced maintenance: Construction that eliminates the need for lubrication.
  • Large capacity flexure absorption: High-strength, highly-flexible carbon fiber reinforced plastic (C-FRP) material is used for the flexible plates.
  • Low noise: Couplings with integrated cover do not require a coupling cover on the traction motor side. This is realized with a structure that covers the area surrounding the flexible plate with a coupling flange.
